Binding channel

Today I will route the binding channel. I set the router to a depth slightly less than the thickness of the binding. I then route on top of the area that I did the channel for the purfling on my test board. Doing this, I can place a piece of purfling and binding in the test channels and test the fit. After, I route an area on the guitar and double check my settings:

After routing all the channels I have a cup of coffee and calm my nerves. I am on high alert when doing binding channels. I am running around making sure I am doing everything right. So much can go wrong that its nerve racking. Your settings can be wrong and you make the channels too deep in either direction. You can chip out a chunk of wood if you are not consious on routing direction. Aaahhh!....

After my nerves calmed, I glue one side of the purfling on the top. I cut the but end at the tail to fit flush to the purfling for the other side.

When the glue dries I carefully remove the tape. Instead of doing the pufling on the other side, I start gluing the binding on the glued purfling side. When I get to the area where the glued purfling ends, I butt the other purfling tightly against the glued purfling and continue gluing the binding as well as the purfling.
